Today I am interviewing Bernadette Allen, author of the new dystopian, science fiction novel, Sovereign Social Protocol.

◊  ◊  ◊

DJ: Hey Bernadette! Thanks for stopping by to do this interview! For readers who aren’t familiar with you, could you tell us a little about yourself?

Bernadette Allen: I am a mom of 3  teens, all of whom homeschool I travel quite a bit, or whenever I have a chance. I grew up in the Washington DC area, but now live in the greater Atlanta area with my 3 kids and 3 golden retrievers.

DJ: What is Sovereign Social Protocol about?

BA: Sovereign Social Protocol follows Aaron, a 22yo who is about to graduate college. But, he seems to be a bit bored with the status quo.  He joins the government, more to change it than to help it, but finds a bigger surprise than even the SSP could imagine.

DJ: What were some of your influence for the story?

BA: Honestly, listening to the political arguments of all the 2016 candidates. After listening to the rhetoric this past year and watching what was going on in our political system for the past 7 years, I can envision so much of 2084.

DJ: Did you have to do any type of research?

BA: I did have to do some research.  I read quite a few books on stem cell therapy and the advancements that have taken place in the past few years. Also, BMW is in the infintry stages of self-driving cars. Finally, the hearing the fear of religion time and time again, not just the fear of Christianity, but all religions.

DJ: Could you briefly tell us a little about Aaron? Does he have any cool quirks or habits, or any reason why readers with sympathize with him?

BA:  Aaron is your typical 22yo college grad.  He missed out on Cancun for beach week, to give up his seat for a “friend.” He truly loves his family.  Like many college grads, he has an idealistic view of the world.

DJ: What do you think readers will love most or be talking about after they have read Sovereign Social Protocol?

BA: Truthfully, the surprise twist ending is what I think the readers will be talking about.  However, I also hope it gets them thinking of where we are headed.  A few of the reviewers have commented that they asked themselves, “could this really happen?” and most came to the conclusion that we as a society could head down this road.

DJ: When I read, I love to collect quotes – whether it be because they’re funny, foodie, or have a personal meaning to me. Do you have any favorite quotes from Sovereign Social Protocol that you can share with us?

BA:  I do, the grandfather is talking to his son in law and says, “Your government may have shut down my church. They may have closed the doors of our building and made us all go home. But no matter where true believers are, you can’t shut down their souls.”

DJ: Have you been reading anything good lately?

BA: I am about to read The Red Storm by Grant Bywaters, but I don’t get a ton of time to read.  Mostly, I have been reading books on stem cell therapy for puppies, because not the cells are taken right from the dog’s fat cells in the vets office.  Seriously fascinating.

DJ: Now that Social Sovereign Protocol is out, what is next for you?

BA:  I’m actually just about finished with the 2nd book of the series.  I am very excited to have the readers see Aaron’s story play out.  However, I am working on a new series in the meantime, taking notes and writing down ideas.

DJ: Where can readers find out more about you?
