Skottie Young has some clever and witty dialog.

Gert finally has a face to face with Queen Cloudia. Will it she leave with her face, or will it be blasted of her rotten skull by the Queen?

Looks, it’s basically the same as the other issues. That’s not a bad thing though! We have the cool plot twist of Happy in the story now… but it’s the same type of humor, violence, and Gertrude still trying to find that key. However, I did notice this time, that Young is very good a writing his character’s dialog.

Believe it to not – Gert didn’t die from Happy’s attack! After her encounter with Happy, Gert is pissed (to say the least) and seeks out Queen Cloudia to find out what the deal is. The Queen tells Gert that if Happy finds the key and leave Fairyland before Gert, then Gert will become a permeant citizen of Fairyland – thus allowing Queen Cloudia to finally have the ability to kill her.

Gerturde is non to happy – quite pissed off, actually – and decides that she need to talk to one of the Seven Evil Dooms to see if she can borrow their power to take out Happy.

One thing that is never going to change in this comic is the first page of the issue being introduced by a creature from the Narrator’s Guild and them being brutally killed; another thing that is never going to change is me finding this utterly hilarious! This issue we have a cute little slug, with its happy looking eyes, wearing an adorable top hap and bow tie XD

The other thing that hasn’t changed is the story. Again, this is not bad. What you got in the first three issues, is what you are going to get again here: making fun of the fairytale tropes, Gert’s over-the-top violence, the heavy focus on the humor, and it being a quick read, because the plot is not very deep. Again, that is not bad. This comic is like a sugar-packed candy: it’s not going to fill you up like steak and potatoes, but you are going to devout the whole bag in a second because it tastes so fluffing good!

This issue, I have to say, was probably the most dialog and plot focused of the series so far (which may seem kind of ironic considering I just spent the first part of the review saying it lacks plot). The whole first half of the issue was focused on dialog between Gert, Queen Claudia, and Larry. And it was in this conversation that I realized how fantastic Young is a writing Gert’s character. She is always saying “Fluff this” and “Fluff that”, but her complaints, insults, and snarky-ness is never same. I’m very impressed with it.

After this conversation though, the comic seemed to go by fairly quick. Again, not a bad thing –  but it was Gert going off to a new land to find a new person-of-intersest, killing a ton of things on her way, and then getting and talking to the person-in-question. It’s all hilarious dialog, great drawings (the art for the Seven Evil Dooms are is in incredible!), and 100% entertaining – but it doesn’t take a lot of mental focus to read it.

One thing thing I forget to mention, was a bit a Young’s story-telling I was impressed with: after the Gert, Queen Cludia, and Larry, conversation, Young shows a panels of Happy going off to the find the key home, and how seemingly easy, and so much fun she is having doing it! Then we go to Gert’s panels where it is literally a nightmare trying to get to the Seven Evil Dooms XD Great comparison and put things in perspective to how easy getting the key should have been.

Still loving this comic, and I totally recommend it to people out there looking for a good laugh. Can’t wait to read the last issue of this first story arc! 🙂
