From DJ to MD: Prologue

ST. GEORGE'S UNIVERSITY LOGO

Those of you who have been following my blog since around its beginning may remember that last June, I was invited to do an interview interview with SCy-Fy Flynn about my blogging. In this interview, one of the questions asked was about my futures plans for my blog. I said there were three features I wanted to add.

One was some type of monthly drawing round-up. I was participating in Tabitha’s Art It Up!, but as you can tell… I never kept up with drawing. The second was writing some essays for my blog. I think I posted one or two? I have about 10 drafted outlines saved in my drafts, but I never seem to have the motivation to write them. The third was something that was “super top-secret. It’s not book or SF/F related, but I think some people may really enjoy it. That should be starting up somewhere between January and April of next year.” I was close to the announcement date! Now that all paper have been signed, plane tickets bought, and loans taken out, I am ready for the reveal… I am going to medical school!

This means that there will be some big changes happening around MyLifeMyBooksMyEscape, very soon. I am not leaving for med school until August 7, 2016. However, I am starting an online class for it today (June 27), until July 28. This online class is everyday of the week and will decided whether or not I will go into the MD or prep-program.

From the feature image, in case you don’t know, I am going to a Caribbean school. (I am not going to type in the school’s name or the exact name of the programs to avoid search engines picking this up) Why a Caribbean school? I did very well on the MCAT (scored in the 83%), however my science GPA was extremely poor. I went to college to play baseball, and after my career ended due to injury, I had problems commiting myself for more than enough to get by. The 3.7 GPA  I had in the Classics (major) and Chinese (minor) fell… drastically. This is also why I must take this online program: to prove if I am ready for the MD program of not.

The online programs is essential that prep-program (which normally last 4 months and goes over all the foudnations and basics you would need for medical school. ) in 5 weeks. Then depending if I get an 80% or higher,  itwill decide if I go into the MD or prep. I actually chose this school, and turned down a scholarship to another med school, so I could take this prep-program. I do want to pass the online class first, badly, and go into the MD, but if I don’t, that is okay.

To the blogging stuff….

Obviously that one book review a week thing will be gone.  I will have review for tomorrow (Scavenger: A.I. by Timothy C. Ward) and The Bastard Read-Along is back and alive!!! Kaja and I will be posting our reviews on July 12! 🙂 But aside from that, I have a couple of reviews saved up that I will post once a month – most likely as a Backlist Burndown.

My participant for The Time Travelers Almanac Read-Along will temporality be put on hiatus as well.

I should be able to keep up with The Friday Face-Off, and I have several Book Collection Updates saved to post.

I have already had my review requests closed for a time and will remain closed until after I have started med school because I do now know yet how I will manage my time and how much free time for pleasure reading will be available to me. However, you should have noticed in increase in my authors interviews, guest posts, and spotlights.

This was done on  purpose. It is MUCH quicker and easier to copy, post, and edit those, and am I hoping to be able to post a couple of these each per week to keep my blog alive, healthy, and active, while my reading and review writing is down. I already have an insane amount of the planned and ready (3 weeks full!)! So if you are an author or publisher reading this, send me an email if you are interested 😀

I will still be reading and commenting on all you lovely blogs! 🙂 But it may not be nearly as much or as often as I can now. The same goes to me responding to comments on my blog.

This new feature “From DJ to MD” is something that I have planned on doing since before I started the blog and would like to keep up throughout my entire time in medical school. This will NOT been a weekly, or even monthly feature – more likely a write-up during vacations. But I think this is something that will really separate my blog from others, and should also help explain the title of my blog a little 😉

Plus, since this is book blog, I thought I might break it down into prologues, chapters, interludes, and such?

I will go into more detail about everything I have just touched on in a later date – probably in August before I leave, but for now….

The Important Stuff:

  • I’m going to Medical School August 7, 2016.
  • I’m taking an online course from June 27 – July 28, in which my online activity in the SF/F community will be down.
  • Less book reviews and The TTA Read-Along posts for some time, but you will see an increase in authors interview, guest posts, and spotlight on the blog.
  • Should also be able to keep up with The Friday Face-Off and still have many Book Collection Updates to post
  • I am NOT going away!!!!! MyLifeMyBooksMyEscape will STAY ACTIVE!!! 😀
  • I will post more about this in August

  4. Congratulations and good luck DJ! Though when I first saw the title “from DJ to MD”, at first I thought you might be moving to my neck of the woods (Maryland) lol!

    • Thanks, Bookwraiths! (for the good luck and compliment on reviews) 😀

I still have 2 reviews left to post: Red Seas Red Skies on this upcoming Tuesday, and then The Providence of Fire – but I’ll probably save that until August.

Most likely a big gap until December when I’m on break for more review , but as you can tell form this month, the blog should have a good amount of interviews and guest posts to keep you entertained. Hope you enjoy them!
