Today I am interviewing Peter Fugazzotto, author of the new science-fiction novel, Alien Infestation, first book of his new series.

DJ: Hey Peter! Thanks for stopping by again to do another interview!

If case some readers missed that previous interview ((which I will link there)), what are some things you’d like them to know about you?

Peter Fugazzotto: I’m a writer of fantasy and science fiction, and my goal is to write action-driven stories with memorable characters. I am really looking to give readers books that they can get lost in.

DJ: What is Alien Infestation about?

Peter: It’s your classic story of aliens invading unsuspecting humans and the need for an unlikely group of humans leading the fight against the aliens. In addition to suspense and adventure, it’s also got a bit of a love story thrown in there as well.

DJ: What were some of your influences for Alien Infestation?

Peter: I had three main influences for this story. The first, of course, is the Alien film series. I draw off both the underlying horror of being trapped on a spaceship with aliens and the courage required to fight back against insurmountable odds. I also draw from Starship Troopers since my aliens definitely have a bug-like quality and one of the main characters is a space marine. Finally, I make a strong nod towards Escape from New York, because who doesn’t want a one-eyed hero named Snake in your story.

DJ: Could you briefly tell us a little about your main characters? Do they have any cool quirks or habits, or any reason why readers will sympathize with them?

Peter: One of the two main characters is Snake Williams, a salvage pirate, who has to struggle with whether to save his own neck or help humanity in the fight against the alien swarm. He’s cocky and brash and things never seem to go his way. His counterpart is Sergeant Winn Engstrom, a space marine, who has to decide whether she is going to always go by the book and follow orders or do the morally right thing. She’s a kick ass solider and pretty fearless. These two play off each other, save each other’s necks, and begin to get romantically involved.

DJ What is the world and setting of Alien Infestation like?

Peter: The story takes place in the future where humanity has begun colonizing the stars. A Federation is the main government but increasingly folks are living beyond the reach of the authorities. The entire story takes place on spaceships at the edge of the Federated Territories.

DJ: What can you tell us about this swarm of attacking aliens? ((What look like, culture, technology, etc.))

Peter: The aliens are bug-like. They eat humans and breed fast. They are hard to kill. We had no idea they were out there. They are our worst nightmare.

DJ: What was your favorite part about writing Alien Infestation?

Peter: I really enjoyed invoking the feeling of Alien and Starship Troopers in the story. I especially liked writing the scenes where different characters were first happening upon the aliens and the horror they experienced.

DJ: What do you think readers will be talking about most once they finish it?

Peter: I’ve already had beta readers tell me how much of a feel of the Alien film series the book has, which is actually what I was shooting for. I am also hoping that readers will want to know what happens next with Snake and Engstrom and humanity’s battle with the aliens.

DJ: Now that Alien Infestation is released, what is next for you?

Peter: I’ve got two other projects in the hopper. I am finishing up a fantasy novel that takes place in a Southeast Asian inspired world with an undercurrent of fungal magic, and am getting my head around a horror story about a trip into the woods that goes bad,

An unlikely hero will need to emerge to protect us.

Snake Walker, a salvage pirate, and his ragtag crew are thrust into the heart of the alien invasion. He’ll have to escape the prison ship Acheron and then turn the tables on the bug-like aliens.

It’s not only his own neck on the line, but also five thousand innocent civilians asleep on a colony ship. And time’s running out.

Luckily, he’s partnered up with Space Marine Winn Engstrom. She’s tougher than nails and not afraid to blow the bug aliens to smithereens.

Together, it’s time to go bug hunting.
